I am writing to share with you the books I read last Easter: ‘La Era de la Revancha‘ (‘the Age of Revenge’), by Andrea Rizzi, and ‘Nexus‘ by Yuval Noah Harari. Albeit seemingly unrelated, they both address the profound socio-economic transformation we are living due to the technology revolution from different non-technical perspectives.
Andrea Rizzi is a seasoned global affairs correspondent for El País, one of the most relevant newspapers in Spain. In ‘La Era de la Revancha’, he provides a brief but comprehensive overview of the geopolitical context nowadays, how the distribution of power is changing and how the different ‘blocks’ perceive the turbulent era we are entering due to, among others, the ongoing digital revolution.
Regarding the second book, I was hoping to have some time and peace of mind to read through it. Yuval Noah Harari does not need an introduction and I would recommend any of his books. In ‘Nexus’, he gives a masterful historical perspective of the evolution of information networks, to explain how AI is disrupting information flows and processing. In a truly mind-boggling book, he throws brilliant ideas about the threats and existential challenges we face nowadays. Researchers can find very useful references, as well, and I’d say it is a must-read book for people involved in technology.
