Workshop @CiTiP

Very happy to have participated in a fantastic Workshop on data markets organised by the Centre for IT & IP Law (CiTiP) @KU Leuven in the context of Project Upcast on 8-9 December 2025. Thanks very much for the invitation!

The event explored key legal questions related to data sharing in Europe, including issues of privacy, smart contracts, automated compliance and the many open questions arising from the recent wave of data legislation. I participated in PANEL 4, «The EU as a Data Market Maker: Between Proactive Regulation and Aspirational Governance», moderated by Leona King, and sharing the floor with Andrea Palumbo, Triantafyllos Kouloufakos, Andreas Samartzis, and Vladimir A. It’s an honour to be part of such a talented group of researchers.

My intervention explored the interplay between the Data Governance Act and the existing ecosystem of entities trading data over the Internet, as well as the implications that innovation in the field may have for the «neutrality» of Data Intermediation Service Providers (DISPs) in the EU. This fresh perspective is based on the findings of a joint working paper with KU Leuven and the University of Southampton, which will soon be published in a tier-1 law & computer science journal.
