Data is everywhere in today’s economy — but for many organizations, its real business value remains frustratingly unclear. This question lies at the core of the upcoming Gaia-X Spain webinar, “¡Activa tus datos! Mercado, valor y cómo empezar”, which will be held online on 9 April. The session proposes to address a topic of growing relevance for both public and private organizations: how companies are exploiting their data assets in the market and how to address the economic potential of data assets.

First, we will examine the business models of companies trading their data over the Internet and how data is valued in market contexts. We will present the results of our survey on data marketplaces and their business models, and a cutting-edge research tool designed to estimate and explain the market price of a data asset based on its metadata.

Second, the session will focus on how organizations can begin to identify opportunities associated with their own data assets. In practice, the issue is rarely only whether data has value, but rather under what conditions that value can be realized — through new services, partnerships, interoperability initiatives, or participation in data-sharing ecosystems. The webinar therefore promises to address not only valuation, but also the organizational and strategic steps required to move from latent potential to practical implementation.
