Insightful presentations and exciting discussions in the Joint Workshop of Q4/1 and Q6/1 on Personal data usage. It has been an honor to participate in sectoral discussions at the International Telecommunications Union.
I’d like to thank Prof. Emanuele Giovannetti and Mr. Cameron Kerry for their great opening speeches. Special thanks to Mr. Arseny Plossky for coordinating the session, and for the original idea to poll the audience. Most participants agreed that i) it is competent regulatory authorities that must lead data protection initiatives, and ii) that securing this protection is more important than giving people money back for their data.
Representing Axon Partners Group – many thanks again for trusting me for the event -, I presented my views on the peculiarities of personal data as an economic good, and summarized the regulatory landscape shaping the data economy in the EU. My opening intervention was fueled by my current research at IMDEA Networks Institute. The bottom line is that there is a lot of multidisciplinary work ahead in the field of data regulation and AI accountability. It’s not only me who thinks that.
